Beechwood Cemetery

The Beechwood cemetery, established in 1873, is the national cemetery of Canada. State of the Art Acoustik was called upon in 2005 to renovate the acoustic aspects of this beautiful establishment.

Our contributions were 3 fold:

First, calculating and modeling the interior of the sanctuary in order to recommend finishes and geometries advantageous for speech intelligibility, while still respecting the commitment to the original shape of the structure.

Secondly, to review the wall types, as well as window and door configurations for sensitive wall spaces such as boardrooms, meeting rooms, etc.

Finally, reviewing the mechanical noise caused by HVAC equipment; Involving inspection of equipment specifications, as well as making recommendations for vibration isolation of fans, chillers, pumps and cooling towers. SOTA also insured that the fan noise levels at the neighbouring properties met the City of Ottawa Noise By-law levels, given the close proximity of the residential neighbours.
