Salle Odyssée

The Salle Odyssée is a modern performance space that caters to music, shows, and stand up comedy. There was a renovation to mitigate loud mechanical noise and improve the reverberation. State of the Art Acoustik made acoustic models of the auditorium to predict how the mechanical units behave and determine what solution would be best.

St. Lawrence College Music Department

St. Lawrence College has an incredible music program thanks to the resources from SOTA. State of the Art Acoustik Inc. created several music and recording studios, as well as music practice rooms. The recording studios required much sound isolation and reverberation control which SOTA provided to a high standard. The practice rooms posed a particular challenge since the rooms are intended for individual musical practice but are situated directly beside other practice rooms and classrooms. Despite the proximity, SOTA was able to plan for a high sound transmission class in order to reduce the radiated noise.

Ottawa Little Theater

The Ottawa Little Theatre is one of the oldest theater groups in Ottawa, who have been performing plays since 1913. This renowned establishment recently underwent renovations to the auditorium in which the seating floor was replaced, and the room was re-designed. SOTA’s acoustical designs improved the speech intelligibility and overall performance of the entire space.

Théâtre de l’Île

The Théâtre de l’Île in Gatineau was once the old water tower from 1886. There was a renovation of the theater to protect the heritage building, but to add new elements. State of the Art Acoustik created models of the space to predict mechanical noise and then gave suggestions to improve it. SOTA also helped to improve the reverberation time and interior acoustics in the auditorium.

SOTA Studios

Canadian artist Drake and his music producer Noah “40” Shebib worked very closely with State of the Art Acoustik Inc. while designing Drake’s home studio, and they loved all of SOTA’s work. Since Drake and “40” were so impressed with the high quality speakers and designs by SOTA they commissioned another private studio to be named after their amazing acoustic consultants. State of the Art Acoustik Inc. worked very hard on this high-profile project ensuring the control of mechanical noise, reverberation, impact vibration as well as sound isolation and loudspeaker design.

OVO Sound

Drake is one of Canada’s most influential contemporary artists who is known for his rap and hip-hop music. This Grammy award winning musician required an at home recording studio and SOTA was more than happy help. State of the Art Acoustik Inc. designed the entirety of his home studio, from mechanical noise reduction and reverberation control to the speakers used personally by Drake which are some of the largest in North America.

Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church

The Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church designed by Stephen Teeple and SOTA, won a Governor General’s Award for Architecture. Using computer models of the interior, SOTA produced the best possible sanctuary in terms of the speech intelligibility.

Beechwood Cemetery

The Beechwood cemetery, established in 1873, is the national cemetery of Canada. SOTA was called upon in 2005 to renovate the acoustic aspects of this beautiful establishment. SOTA’s directions were to enhance speech intelligibility, ensure that sensitive rooms met the necessary speech privacy level, and mitigate the noise emitted by mechanical units. SOTA was able to accomplish all the above through careful digital modeling and calculations to predict and modify the acoustic performance.

Scotia Festival Hall

Designed by Architect Niall Savage and SOTA, the Scotia Festival Hall is the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Architecture. It is an intimate performance space which provides an exciting musical performance venue in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The small scale allows it to be used for recording, practice, community music as well as more traditional performance types. The Scotia Festival Hall is a superb illustration of the power of architectural and acoustical imagination, which creates unusual performance spaces with stunning acoustics, on a community budget.

Silvercity, Star Cité, and Cineplex Cinemas Ottawa

Many of the movie theatres in and around Ottawa have been designed by SOTA, such as Silvercity Gloucester, Cineplex Cinemas Ottawa, and Star Cité Gatineau. The nature of the cinema is to be quiet, so the sound from neighboring theatres mustn’t be heard and any background noise must be silenced. State of the Art Acoustik Inc. worked tirelessly to ensure that these famous theatres met every expectation by isolating sound and controlling background noise. Thanks to their brilliant design these theatres were among the first in Canda to achieve THX certification.
